Cerebral palsy: when other therapy methods are not enough
You might think you have tried it all when it comes to cerebral palsy therapy of your child. You might also think that nothing can surprise you now. Meanwhile there might be a load of ways of treatment that you are not familiar with. Yet!
Very important part of therapy of a child affected by cerebral palsy is physiotherapy, obviously. Cerebral palsy is a group of movement disorders – that is why it is so important to constantly work on movement ability. The disease might go further and the best way to prevent it is to work on one’s locomotor system. During physiotherapy sessions the therapist focuses on improving movement ability, as well as teaching child’s carer how to position them in routine situations like sitting.
There are many types of therapy connected with physiotheraphy. One of them is biofeedback, which goal is to learn people how to deal with their affected muscles. Another type of therapy, massage therapy, is applied to relax tense muscles of a person affected by the disorder. And of course aside from numerous kinds of therapy, there are also many tools proved to be useful in cerebral palsy treatment.
A good example of such a tool is a special quilt called weighted blanket. The name of this tool gives away what it is – it is exactly a quilt with extra weight. It works in a very simple way: that extra weight gives a gentle pressure against the muscles and helps them relax.
